Put Life into Perspective

The attitude I discuss in this poem has given me the courage to embark on a number of new endeavors in my own life, including starting this platform.

Can’t be Bothered with Nerves

At this point in my life,

I haven't the patience for fear

       can't be bothered with nerves

Self-doubt oft steals more than it deserves

and we let it of course -

     that's the easy way out

Then at the missed mark of our goals

     we so righteously pout:

  "I just couldn't do it"

But is that so, love?

Or you just didn't do it

      when push came to shove?

Now don't get me wrong -

     we're allowed to feel afraid,

     have our doubts, second guess

Just become privy to the moment

        your actions digress

from your soul’s deeper knowing

      - the path you know you need

to reach your dreams and supersede

        your stubborn ego

              always saying ‘no’

              to your grand ideas

      convincing you they’re dumb

You can learn to mute this voice

         without making yourself numb

Call to mind a higher purpose -

do it for the world's sake

because when we align with a greater 'why'

we don't feel our own hands shake

Some people may taunt you

and we do care what they say

but they're not thinking about you

at the end of their day

So you do you, boo no need to feel shame!

So long as you’re kind,

you're not obliged to be tame

Easy in theory,

but how to make it stick

 with walls of insecurity

          so unbearably thick?

Go ahead, have your fright,

       just don't eat it too

 Fill your plate with motivation

and the lots of pleasure too

It's awfully hard to feel self-conscious

        when you're busy having fun!

 That's my secret ingredient

        to getting it done

Turn your jitters into joy

      - feel so glad to have this chance!

Those shaking legs

       are really begs

    to do a happy dance

 Anxiety can serve us

       and it shall not debilitate

because life is far too short

to let worry paint our fate

You'll regret the leaps not taken

more than those that sprained your ankle

because courage is something for which

         we later will feel thankful

Bones can heal

     and embarrassment doesn't last

So let your future self feel proud of its past

I invite you to indulge in your most exuberant spirit

and to your toxic inner critic…say:

"Today, I just don't want to hear it."

POWER MOVE: Do something today that scares you. If you feel nervous, remind yourself: “I’m going to die one day. And it won’t be from this.”

Bonus points if you have have FUN with it!!

Tip: please don’t do anything life threatening :)
