Giving credit where it's due - destiny or ourselves?
A few years ago I started to I notice a pattern among my clients: they would credit external factors for their successes and internal factors for their perceived “failures”. When they felt they did poorly during a presentation or meeting, they’d list all the reasons why they’re terrible at their jobs, they weren’t suited for the task, they’re too shy, they’re too incompetent, they’re too awkward, etc etc. But then when they absolutely NAILED it, they’d brush it off and say, “it was a fluke! I somehow got good feedback; maybe they were just being nice.” Of course that’s not always the case, and we may do the opposite when our confidence is higher (but I guess those instances don’t come up as often during coaching 🤔) Either way, balance in all things ⚖️ here’s a poem about it ✨
